Matthew Seymour

Background:

Matt Seymour is a Research Support Specialist at the Center of Excellence (COE) in Weather & Climate Analytics. His primary role involves collaboration with partners in the utility & energy sectors on developing products with goals of increasing risk and hazard awareness for weather events in the short- and medium-range. His past work includes creation of the Erie County Winter Storm Scale (ECWSS) for Erie County, New York, modifying the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index (SAWTI) to assess its usability in the Northeastern USA, and addressing the effects of near-freezing precipitation (such as heavy, wet snow) on the occurrence of power outages in New York State. Current work involves the development of a medium-range severe weather risk assessment for partners in the Northeastern USA. Matt has also supported interns through the University at Albany’s Atmospheric Science Applied Masters program, participated in the writing of project proposals, and attended & presented work at local and national meteorology conferences.
