Hossein Hooshyar is Senior Director of the Advanced Grid Innovation Laboratory for Energy (AGILe) at the New York Power Authority, where he leads laboratory operations and business development. Since joining NYPA in 2022, he has helped advance an innovation-focused environment for evaluating technologies that support a cleaner, more resilient, and digital electric grid.

Dr. Hooshyar brings experience across utility research, power-system engineering, and applied technology development. Before joining NYPA, he served as a Technical Leader at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), contributing to the development and testing of synchrophasor applications. His earlier research appointments include Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Luleå University of Technology in Sweden.

His work spans digital simulation of power systems, renewable-energy integration, and the use of phasor measurement unit data to improve smart-grid performance. He is particularly interested in translating advanced modeling, measurement, and digital-twin capabilities into solutions that utilities and technology partners can validate and deploy.

Dr. Hooshyar earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University. A registered Professional Engineer in New York, he is a co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications, co-owner of a U.S. patent, and co-recipient of an R&D 100 Award. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and chairs the IEEE Task Force on Digital Twin of Large Scale Power Systems. He also serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and IEEE Power & Energy Magazine and reviews for research funders, journals, and technical conferences.
